Where Are We? Winter Fun With Maps

I don’t know about you, but I am starting to feel the first tendrils of the winter blues creeping in. While we haven’t had much snow (yet), the cold has certainly kept me inside more than I’d like. With football season ending and March Madness still a ways off, I’m on the lookout new distractions.

It was in this pursuit that I came upon a free, and strangely addictive, online mapping game called Locatestreet. The concept is simple. You are presented with a series of images from Google Street View and you have to guess where in the world it is.

A random location in locatestreet.com. Can you guess where it is?

Sound hard? It is. Luckily this is one of those multiple choice tests so you have at least a 1 in 4 chance of guessing the correct area. Also you can narrow it down a bit by choosing images from anywhere in the world or from a specific country, state, or city.   If you guess correctly, you have to pinpoint where exactly that location can be found on a map. The closer you get to the actual location, the more points you earn.

When you finish going through 20 locations you receive an overall score. If you do well enough, you are invited to add your score to the worldwide leader board.Screen Shot 2015-01-23 at 5.14.50 PM

So next time the cold and/or snow has you stuck inside looking for an antidote to cabin fever, check out Locatestreet and try to beat my high score – 350. (Don’t worry, it shouldn’t be too hard.)
