The Connecticut Land Use Academy is a program of the University of Connecticut Center for Land Use Education and Research. The Academy provides an introduction to a variety of topics and skillsets pertinent for local land use decision makers in Connecticut. New land use commissioners and those considering becoming commissioners will find the courses especially useful, as will current commissioners seeking to update or refresh their understanding of fundamental land use topics.

The Connecticut Land Use Academy is supported by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management, with funds provided by the Connecticut Legislature.

Each Academy series is composed of a core curriculum of three courses. In 2008, the courses will be offered in day-long events, held on Saturdays. The series is conducted four times a year at locations across the state.

Workshop	Summary
Roles & Responsibilities of Land Use Commissions	Enabling legislation; what each land use commission is required to do; what they may do; how they interact with other commissions
Legal Requirements and Procedures of Land Use Decision Making	Legal responsibilities of land use boards; requirements, timelines and public notice aspects of proper application processing
Map Reading for Site Plan Review	Basic map reading skills; how to interpret common maps seen during site plan review; hands-on exercises
