Instructions for Using the Interactive Mapping Site

The Map (Front and Center)
The map is the premiere attraction. All changes and tools will influence the map.

Table of Contents (Right Side)
The Table of Contents lists all of the data layers available. Layers can be Turned On by checking the box and Turned Off by un-checking the box. After you make a change, you have to hit the Refresh Map button.

The two top layers, Watersheds and Towns, are both see-through. They are present to help navigate around the maps. The other image files are not see-through and will block each other. For example, if you want to see the change map, none of the land cover maps can be turned on.

Tools work on the Active Layer. Towns is the Active Layer by default. You can also make Watersheds the Active Layer by selecting its radiobutton and refreshing. The image layers cannot be made active because they do not have GIS attributes - a requirement for GIS tools, such as Identify.

Moving Around (Left Side)
There are a number of ways to move around the map. The Zoom In and Zoom Out tools are for, well, zooming in and zooming out. First click the button. You'll notice that the tool becomes active (a blue box is visible). After you have selected the tool, either click once inside the map to zoom to that spot, or click and drag. The map will zoom in to show only the area in the box.

Click the tool Now the tool is active Either click once in the map to zoom to that spot OR Click and hold to draw a box that defines the zoom in area
Click the tool Now the tool is active Either click once in the map to zoom to that spot OR Click and hold to draw a box that defines the zoom out area

Zoom Out works the same way. Pan allows you to "grab" the map and move it around.

Click the tool Now the tool is active Click inside the map, hold the mouse, and move the map around

Zoom Back takes you to the previous map extent and Zoom to Full Extent changes the map to show the whole state.

Click the tool Takes you to your last map extent
Click the tool Shows the whole state

Tools (Left Side)
The Identify tool works on the Active Layer. Select either Watersheds or Towns by using the radiobutton (the round one). The layer must also be turned on (checked). After selecting Identify, click on the map and the name of the Watershed or Town (depending on the active layer) is displayed in a box at the bottom of the screen.

Click the tool Now the tool is active Make Towns or Watersheds the active layer and make sure it is turned on Click on the map The attributes (name) for the feature are displayed
