Flax Pond Overview

Flax Pond is a 146-acre salt marsh in the Village Old Field on Long Island's North Shore. Like other salt marshes, most of Flax Pond is flooded by seawater at high tide, and exposed to the air at low tide. The marsh lies in a low area between two coastal headlands that are part of the Harbor Hill Moraine. The most conspicuous plant at Flax Pond is salt marsh cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora).
