Basins
Crossing Critical Impervious Surface Thresholds (10% and 25%)
|
|
A
growing body of national research indicates that water quality
and overall stream health decline when the level of imperviousness
in a basin exceeds 10%. At higher levels of impervious cover,
often in the 25% range, water quantity and quality impacts can
become severe and extremely difficult to remediate. The map shows
those basins in Connecticut that have crossed one of these two
critical thresholds between 1985 and 2002.

The black line separates the coastal study area*
towns used for analysis by the CALCAP
project from the inland towns. Basin boundaries are absent from
this map due to the size of the map.
