Interactive Map

Notice: The land cover interactive map is not currently working due to a change in software. We hope to recreate the map and get it up and running in the near future. Sorry for the inconvenience.

You don't need anything but a web browser. It's easy! Please be sure that you understand the data and its appropriate (and inappropriate) uses. Visit the About the Project page for more information about how the maps were produced, metadata information, frequently asked questions, cautions about how to interpret data and for land cover category descriptions that explain what each land cover class represents.

Interactive Map Interface

The Map (Front and Center). The map is the premiere attraction. All changes and tools will influence the map.

Layer List (Right Side) The Table of Contents lists all of the data layers available. Layers can be Turned On by checking the box and Turned Off by un-checking the box.

The two top layers, Regional Basins and Towns, are both see-through. They are present to help navigate around the maps. All other layers in the map are image files are not see-through and will therefore cover each other up. For example, if you want to see the change map, none of the land cover maps can be turned on. Tools work on the Active Layer. Towns is the Active Layer by default. You can also make Regional Basins the Active Layer by selecting its radiobutton and refreshing. The image layers cannot be made active because they do not have GIS attributes - a requirement for GIS tools, such as Identify.

Moving Around (Left Side) There are a number of ways to move around the map. The Zoom In and Zoom Out tools are for, well, zooming in and zooming out. First click the button. You'll notice that the tool becomes active (a blue box is visible). After you have selected the tool, either click once inside the map to zoom to that spot, or click, hold and draw a box. The map will zoom in to show only the area in the box.
