American chestnut in Connecticut:

Site Affinity and Habitat Suitability

Overview

The purpose of this project is to develop two geospatial models to assist the Connecticut Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation (CTACF) to:

  1. Predict probable locations for finding flowering American chestnut sproutswithin Connecticut (Site Affinity)
  2. Identify suitable habitat for the reintroduction of a hybridized form of American chestnut into the Connecticut landscape (Habitat Suitability)

The work presented here builds upon worked that has already been performed by the CTACF for Litchfield County during the summer of 2009.
