4. Andover Farmland Soils
The soils data is made up of many small map units, which may be dominated by a single soil, a mixture of soils, or non-soil areas. Soils data was collected by the USDA NRCS (formally the Soil Conservation Service) between 1962-1995. This map highlights soils that have been identified as having agricultural significance. Many towns are concerned about conserving their agricultural heritage and/or potential. An important caveat: soils information should be used for PLANNING purposes only. In no way should it replace site level work when specific projects are proposed.
