The soils data is made up of many small map units, which may be dominated by a single soil, a mixture of soils, or non-soil areas. Soils data was collected by the USDA NRCS (formally the Soil Conservation Service) between 1962-1995. This map highlights the several categories of wetland soils. Wetlands can be important habitat areas, and, in Connecticut, regulated wetlands are determined by soil type. An important caveat: soils information should be used for PLANNING purposes only. In no way should it replace site level work when specific projects are proposed. Visit the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Web Soil Survey for more information.
