ADS40 Imagery

The ADS40 imagery is high resolution imagery captured by the ADS40 sensor that files on an aircraft. It collects two sets of data - one image consists of three bands capturing blue, green and red wavelengths. The other set of data consists of three bands capturing green, red and near-infrared wavelengths. Both datasets have 0.5 meter pixel resolution. Imagery was captured for all 36 of the coastal area towns and was delivered in tiles. This imagery was made possible by a grant from the NOAA Coastal Services Center as part of a collaborative project with the University of Connecticut, Wesleyan University and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. Data collection and processing was performed by EarthData International.

CLAM (Coastal Land Assessment Methodology)

CLAM is a spatial analysis project at the tax parcel scale to identify coastal Connecticut's most significant remaining unprotected waterfront or near-waterfront areas with high ecological and coastal recreation value. A set of six to nine criteria were used to identify high priority parcels. Visual inspection of high resolution ADS40 imagery further refined the parcel set.

eCognition Software

eCognition follows an object oriented approach towards image analysis. The concept behind eCognition is that important semantic information necessary to interpret an image is not represented in single pixels, but in meaningful image objects and their mutual relationships. The basic difference, especially when compared to pixel-based procedures, is that eCognition does not classify single pixels, but rather image objects which are extracted in a previous image segmentation step. eCognition software is produced by a company called Definiens Imaging out of Germany.

See5 and its Unix counterpart C5.0 are sophisticated data mining tools for discovering patterns that delineate categories, assembling them into classifiers, and using them to make predictions. See5 is produced by a company called RuleQuest Research out of Australia.
